On September 11th last St.Michael’s Family life centre celebrated 20 years serving the local community. In that time thousands of people have passed through the centre accessing courses and counselling and support of various sorts. Many have remained in touch over the years and many have told us that the centre was a lifesaver at times of trouble. Hundreds of children have attended our Rainbow programme which helps children come to terms with bereavement through death or divorce/separation over the past 20 years Many thanks to our volunteer Facilitators who have given their time and committment over so many years.
We opened our ceiliúradh garden to mark the occasion and hopefully this garden whose name means, celebration, will grow and flourish with the centre over the coming years.
To all who helped in the past 20 years, to all who visited and to all who continue to do so, many thanks.
On a less happy note, we continue to struggle to maintain our service and have reached a critically low point financially at present. Over the past 6-7 years funding has dropped and costs have risen so we now find ourselves struggling to maintain our service. We will continue to do so and hopefully some source of funding will materialize in the new year. With an improving economy and government funds rising, it may not be too much to hope for a little extra funding. A very small amount would mean the difference between continuing our service at the same level or having to reduce it further.
Any of you who may be thinking of doing some sponsored run or walk or similar, perhaps you might consider St.Michael’s as your charity of choice. Any company or business which might be willing to sponsor us even by a few hundred Euro would be most appreciated. It is very likely that some of your staff or their families have accessed the Centre in one way or another over the last 20 years and will wish to do so in the future
